    Description

Bloors Place is a Grade II* listed late 15th Century Wealden Hall House with addition in the 16th Century probably by Christopher Bloor the then owner. Rarely do Tudor houses of this historical significance come onto the market, set in grounds of 1.64 acres and with accommodation extending to 5802 sq ft (539.1 sq m), the houses offers substantial family living space and mature, private surrounding gardens. The house later in ownership of Earls of Thanet, was reduced in size and status to a farmhouse, losing some of the east range and southern end of the stone range by 1800. The front and east elevations of the north range were rebuilt in the 19th century in brick and tile. The south range retains the late 17th century brick addition incorporating earlier stonework. There are many early interior period features including linenfold panelled doors, an architrave with a carved lion holding a crown in one of the spandrels, wall panelling and a stoup within what is now a cupboard. There are attached outbuildings and a barn providing two garages one currently fitted out as a workshop, with its high vaulted roof there is ample space to create a two storey building, as an annexe or leisure accommodation, subject to the usual permissions. The surrounding gardens are a feature of the house, with a sweeping driveway and wide front garden, the garden to the east is bordered by a rare ancient wall with arrow slits and from the south garden a stone arch leads into the extensive walled kitchen garden. There are two paved terraces, mature trees, lawns and huge scope for more landscaping.

The owners have undertaken an extensive programme of modernisation, overseen by the Medway Conservation Office and Historic England. This has included rewiring, a new heating system, restoring the stone mullion windows with inset double glazed leaded light windows, some further new windows, stonework repairs, a new fitted kitchen with centre island and Rangemaster cooker and re-designing some of the room layouts. Currently set out with five bedrooms, four of which have been refitted with three new en-suites. More had been planned with relevant planning permission given for the fitting of a bathroom and dressing room on the second floor. There are three large further attic rooms which offer potential for additional accommodation. The two impressive reception rooms have open fireplaces and wall panelling. There is a rear reception/study, utility room and cellar chambers.

Bloors Place lies on the northern rural edges of Gillingham and Rainham, close to the Riverside Country Park bordering the Medway Estuary. There is good access to the northern bypass road with links to the local area and the A2 for London and Bluewater Shopping Centre. There are private and state schools within three/four miles, mainline stations in Gillingham and Rainham with hi-speed services to London St Pancras. A fabulous family home requiring finishing in your own style, with surrounding gardens in a fabulous rural setting. Your viewing is highly recommended.
